I joined Leading Edge Aviation on their fully Integrated course just after they first started. I personally chose this flight school over another large school due to the nature and friendly atmosphere that I had experienced when going through selection. They put a lot of emphasis on trainee welfare and quality of training which certainly showed.

Our first 6 months of ground school which ended up being 10 months long due to Covid 19 was superb. Cannot fault Leading Edge Aviation for their support and management of our training and the transition to online learning at the time because of the pandemic. As a course we did extremely well and the instructors were fantastic, always available to help and supported you the whole way through.

The flying phase which was all conducted from Oxford was very good. The LEA building and facilities are well kept and the simulator training centre is located a short distance away in a large hanger. The fleet of aircraft was made up of Diamonds with a mix of single engine DA40’s and twin engine DA42’s glass cockpit. Again, the instructors were brilliant which made some of the harder phases of flight training easier. The only downside at the time for us was there was sometimes a lack of aircraft available for students. It would only take one or two aircraft to be in for maintenance and we would sometimes go for a week or more without flying.

Accommodation wise, it was very good. The most recent accommodation in particular is excellent. As we were nearing the end of our training we only spent and few months there but it is in an ideal location to the airport and is not too far from Oxford city centre.

Overall, the atmosphere is great and the quality of both the flight/ground training is excellent. As a course, the majority of us passed everything first time with very high averages. Please note, I started training when they were relatively new and a lot has changed since due to them expanding as a fight school and I believe they have just opened a fair-weather base so my experience may well be very different to yours.

The best advice I can give to anyone that is unsure on what flight school to go to, is to book a visit/open day and speak in person to both the current students and instructors to give yourself the best-informed decision possible.
