This Review Overall Rating

I did my SEP rating at Redhill aviation back in October 2019, and have continued to use them for aircraft hire and SEP reval flights since.

Overall my experience has been a positive one. They are reasonably priced, and don't try to milk you for any extra money than is needed. After gaining my (f)ATPL, I went to gain my SEP on the PA28, and the DCFI Lawrence was clear what we needed to achieve to do so. This meant 2 familiarisation flights and a separate flight test so I was able to gain confidence in a new aircraft type (for me) and understand the operational procedures of the school and Redhill aerodrome. Training was tailored to me personally and was completed within the space of a week.

The school has an online booking system that is made available to you when you sign up to train with them or when you become a member for private hire that shows availability of aircraft and instructors in advance so you can book in plenty of time to plan around your life.

Aircraft and instructor availability is excellent, as is the aircraft maintenance and reliability. They have a lovely fleet of single engine piston aircraft and plenty of friendly and experienced instructors to chose from. The clubhouse is clean and easily accessible with plenty of classroom space and friendly faces with a welcoming atmosphere. You'll always be able to find someone to chat to and have a cup of tea with.

My only slight criticism would be the in the way of the lack of training resources for the training I received. The main point of my training there was to familiarise myself with the PA28, so would have appreciated some resources such as a summary of limitations, systems knowledge, useful things to know, bits like that. Normal and emergency checklists and PLOGs are available on their website, but I would have liked to learn more about the aircraft I did my training on to feel more prepared. Luckily the PA28 is such a common plane you don't have to search for long to find what you're looking for on the internet, so isn't much of an issue.

In summary, Redhill Aviation is a friendly, local flying club that offers a wide range of training courses for all levels of pilot, and I would recommend anyone to visit and consider them for their training needs.
