This Review Overall Rating

An excellent experience with CRM for the combined MCC/JOC course. Right from the off from the initial phone call with the MD Rob Howarth I got a good feeling about the school. Rob was open and honest about the whole experience from the course to the instructors and facilities at CRM Europe which are fantastic.

'To MCC or To not MCC' or 'do I need an APS?'....

One thing you will be thinking about is whether or not to go for the APS or standard MCC. Rob explained the difference quite clearly to me and so I was more than happy that the standard MCC would not be career limiting and that has bene echoed by seasoned ATPL's I've met along the way and has not been asked for once by the companies I've applied to so don't let if put you off!

'I need to train in a B737/A320 sim'...

The other thing you'll be considering is doing the course in a full blown 737 or A320 sim. CRM's sim is a generic jet, similar to the A320 but it is not an issue! The quality of the sim is excellent and the course is about MCC, it's not a type rating and again it will not make a difference to your future job applications. Focussing on the MCC part of the course is challenging on it's own and is what you should be spending your brain processing time on - not learning how to operate a A320 or B737, that will come in your type rating. The CRM sim is great, just wait until you have a simulated fire in the cabin to deal with...

The instructors...

The instructors are all real live airline Captain's. I had an instructor for the JOC part (Martin), another for the MCC theory (Peter) and another for the MCC practical (Nick). They were all great instructors and very experienced captains and I learnt different things from each of them which was invaluable. They also all echoed the points above about APS & sim which was re-assuring

The facilities...

CRM is a good setup. Very organised COVID wise so you'll be safe on that aspect and good facilities for eating, drinking and breaks etc. It's right next to the White Waltham club house too so if you attend in more relaxed times their cafe is great to grab a bite to eat at. In terms of accommodation there's the facilities provided by CRM which I heard good things about from another person on the course. I stayed in the Premier Inn in Marlow which was also good value and only a few minutes drive from CRM. The social side can be as social as you want it to be I guess but in COVID times it's N/A.

Aftercare...

The follow up support I've received from Rob and the instructors I met on the course has been second to none. After spending a long time training to get to the point where you can start applying for a role with an airline it can be pretty daunting when suddenly you are on your own so to speak. The guys at CRM have been really helpful with the next journey.

Overall...

Overall I can say that CRM are very good and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering then for their MCC/JOC training. Probably the UPRT too which all looked very good and again delivered by some very experienced pilots - unfortunately I'd already completed mine otherwise I could have done it all under one roof!
