This Review Overall Rating
I came to Simtech in Dublin for my APS/MCC course on the 737NG. I though the organisation was excellent, the documentation provided in advance was good and the assistance with getting to/from the airport via the hotel bus was also helpful.
The accomodation itself became a bit tedious, ssharing a hotel room for 2 weeks is exhausting unless you are best mates with the person you're sharing with. We had a great group fo people on the course and, when we were all free at the same time, we were able to have great fun outside of training from a social standpoint.
Simtech itself was a really cool environment, especially for us who had never been to a proper simulator training centre before. It was nice to speak with type rating students and instructors to see what lies ahead in our careers.
The 4 days of classroom instruction prior to the sim days was a bit tedious, a lot of information I felt we really didn't need to know and I can't say I stepped away feeling I knew any more about multi-crew than I did before. The technical theory however was very useful and so I did feel prepared to step into the simulator on a technical standpoint.
The simulator instruction was excellent, we had a lot of fun and the sim really did make you feel like you were doing the real thing, especially in emergencies! The adrenaline of an unexpected rejected takeoff at V1 really made it feel real. It was a great learning experience and I have taken a lot away from the course.
3 Positives and 3 Negatives
- Helpful and friendly staff
- Great quality of practical instruction
- Great quality simulators
- Hotel was not always punctual with the bus service to the simulators
- Hotel location means at least 40 min walk including crossing a major dual carriageway to the nearest shopping centre with food outlets (apart from the petrol station opposite)
- Theory section could be better
