This Review Overall Rating
I studied CPL MEIR ratings from June to August 2017, so around 9 weeks in total in Kalmar at DFAS.
Facilities were certainly one of the highlights at DFAS. You live in a converted Hotel/Spa type place right on the airport. Some rooms were brand new and refurbished which were really stunning. I had a room in a building just outside (which I think is refurbished now), but even so I really enjoyed it. Quite liked the peace and quiet. The simulator was excellent, a short walk down the road from your place. Aircraft fantastic too, 3 DA42's all really well maintained.
Instructors were fantastic. Very relaxed, very chilled out. 'Where do you want to fly to tomorrow?', kind of chilled out.
If there's one thing just to note (but it may have changed now). Henrik the guy who owns it could do with a secretary. He handles (or did at the time) all emails etc to the school, joining instructions etc. Sometimes he's slow to reply. That would be my only negative point, albeit minor.
Social life is also a highlight of Kalmar. Really great little town to go out in. You have plenty of free time for this! You also get night stops with your training which are fun too.
Success followed pretty quickly with Titan Airways flying the A320. They give you a training feedback form which was part of the assesment process. The other positive too is, it seems to have a very good reputation with recruiters at the airlines. That goes such a long way!
Overall, highly recommended. For the price, certainly at the time, there's no comparison in my view to what you get at DFAS. But the main point is, you won't want to leave at the end of it all, it's that good.
