My experience with Aviation Southwest was really good, and I highly recommend to anybody looking for a modular training school.

I competed my CPL and MEIR at ASW in 2016 and found it to be very good value for money. I was flying everyday, with either 1-to-1 or 1-to-2  instructor/student ratio. The courses were well planned and I always knew what to expect day-to-day and week-to-week.  The atmosphere in the school was friendly and relaxed, and the managers/owners were always approachable should any issues arise (not that they did).

However by far the best thing was the quality of the instruction. They have some fantastic instructors who really know their stuff and enjoy teaching.

Negatives - not much to say really. The aircraft aren’t new shiny DA40s and DA42 with glass cockpits. However I found learning in the older aircraft, with analogue instruments, provided better situational awareness in the long run, especially during the MEIR. You won’t find glossy marketing and brand new facilities like at the big integrated schools, however this keeps the costs down and provides better value in my opinion.

After completing my training I was offered positions at 3 European airlines, and have been flying commercially ever since.

All in all I would encourage anyone looking at modular training to pay them a visit for coffee and a chat.
