This Review Overall Rating
Overall, this is an excellent flight training school.
I’ve only completed my PPL so far, got it in 54h (had a 3 month no-flying gap due to lockdown).
My instructor Fabio was very good at demonstrating manoeuvres and keen to let me have plenty of time on the controls from the beginning, which is how you learn quickly. If you make a mistake or could do something better he’s very supportive and gets you doing the right thing naturally before too long. He got me going solo in about 12h which is pretty good. It’s a steep learning curve and when mistakes occur, my instructor had a helpful approach and always made me feel comfortable. I also liked how my instructor usually let me walk out to the aircraft 10min ahead and settle in (do all checks, ATIS etc) within my own time, so you begin the lesson feeling more relaxed.
After every flight my instructor gave a thorough debrief and always made detailed notes in my training file. Preflight theory was clearly explained in the classroom which made it easy to grasp techniques during all the practical flying exercises.
I enjoyed the full PPL course, it followed a well structured path from start to finish. The cross country land-away was one of the highlights, with landings at Kemble & Cardiff. Although there is a lot to learn, I promise you’ll have a lot of fun at the same time! Overall, the school has all you need to progress in your flying aspirations.
I’m keen to move onto the commercial training, from what I’ve seen and having spoken to other students, this school is well placed to provide both ATPL ground school and all the practical flying elements with a good variety of aircraft and instructors. I’d highly recommend Aviation Southwest.
