This Review Overall Rating
I attended AFTA for APS MCC having completed the Frozen ATPL elsewhere in a modular format. I followed that with their Airline Assessment Preparation course.
Overall I’m super happy that I went with AFTA for these elements. The standard of instruction is second to none I would say. Good quality sims, enthusiastic, dedicated instructors who set a very high standard. It was a very intense course and at times I felt the pressure to keep learning and performing was just about at my limit but walking away I feel that I have gained a really good standard.
The Airline Assessment prep is very very good. Three elements to it - HR, Technical Interview and Sim Preparation.
The HR woman gave excellent pointers on CV prep, interview guidance, mock interviews and feedback from previous students.
Tech. Likewise there were mock interviews, feedback from previous students.
The sim prep is well run, you are generally paired with another pilot who is also completing preparation so for every hour of sim prep you pay for, you also get an hour in the PM role. Sessions focus very much on the SOPs required on the day of your assessment. You practice the actual SIDs and Approaches that are used for the real assessment. All based again on feedback from previous students.
All three elements of the Preparation course were very good quality. I felt like all the staff involved in running these parts were genuinely putting the effort in to getting me the result I wanted. I feel confident that my successful result on the assessment day was in no small part due to their efforts.
Honorable mentions specifically for Mark Slade and Kevin Loftus, two APS MCC and Sim Prep instructors. Both are extremely dedicated and really go above and beyond with the time and effort they put in.
Pros and Cons.
Pros - Excellent Instructors overall.
- Great support after the courses in finding employment.
- Honest, friendly school.
Cons - Pricier than competitors at the time I did it, but I see they have now reduced the price and also I believe their standard warrants the price they charge.
- One instructor was below par but I believe they are aware of this and from my own experience and conversation with others, this person doesn’t play a large role in the training.
To sum up, I recommend AFTA without reservation.
